You've Had the Baby... Who's Taking Care of It?

We meet with many businesses who say very similar things... "I spent all this time and money to get my website designed, but it has never been updated!" There are a number of things that go into successfully managing a website, but I want to mention two things in particular.

First, a website is much like a living breathing entity and not a painting on a wall. It needs constant care and attention if it is to be a viable tool in a business’s marketing arsenal. This means that there needs to be a content/messaging strategy in mind prior to launching the website. This ensures that new content can be consistently served up to users to encourage user loyalty.

Secondly, the website itself needs to be easily manageable from a technical standpoint. In the past the only people who could upkeep a website where programmers, or at least someone with a working knowledge of coding and access to an interface application such as Dreamweaver. These days, there are powerful content management systems (CMS) that can enable non-technical people to maintain their own websites. These systems ensure that the structure and design of a website is protected, and provides a simplified method for adding and editing content.

Of course, there is much more that goes into creating and maintaining a successful online marketing initiative, but these are at least two primary areas of common neglect that many companies overlook when considering who they should entrust to build their most valuable marketing tool… their website.
